Performance

The Steel Division reported revenues of £1,342.6 million in 2025. This was modest revenue growth (+1.4%, like-for-like), mostly driven by Advanced Refractories (+3.9% revenue growth like-for-like), with stable revenue from Flow Control. On a reported basis, revenue was flat, reflecting the impact of FX headwinds, the contribution from the PiroMET acquisition and like-for-like revenue growth, supported by modest increases in both sales volume and pricing. In the Steel Division, both Flow Control and Advanced Refractories gained market share overall, with gains in Asia and EMEA more than offsetting a slight erosion in the rest of the Americas. Trading profit for the Steel Division fell by 18.3% on a like-for-like basis, resulting in a drop in return on sales of 210bps.

Business Units

Steel Flow Control

The Vesuvius Flow Control Business unit supplies the global steel industry with consumable ceramic products, systems, robotics, digital services and technical products. These products are used to contain, control and monitor the flow of molten steel in the continuous casting process. The continuous casting process enables steel manufactured from the blast furnace or an electric arc furnace to be cast without interruption, whilst protecting it from the atmosphere. Avoiding atmospheric contact is crucial as it significantly reduces contamination and oxidation of the steel being produced.

Steel Advanced Refractories

Vesuvius' Advanced Refractories Business Unit supplies specialist refractory products designed to enable steel-making equipment, such as Electric Arc Furnaces and Basic Oxygen Furnaces, to hold the molten metal.
